Sails and Serves is the only camp in this country where 9-16 year-olds receive first class professional training in two life-long sports. Your camper will learn valuable new skills in ways that are challenging, rewarding and fun. Witness their successes with new levels of athleticism, sportsmanship, and confidence. And best of all, each camper spends the day participating in wholesome outdoor activities, enjoying nature’s wonders.
Sailing camp starts at 9:00 am each day when campers meet their professional instructor and new shipmates. Comprehensive sailing skills are taught, practiced, and repeated until your sailor knows all boating fundamentals, including: sailing terms, points of sail, boating safety, tacking/gybing, and docking. In just one week of instruction on Chicago Sailing’s 22’ sailboats, campers will master the basic skills needed to operate a comparable sailboat on Lake Michigan in controlled conditions.
Sailing is followed by a 30-minute supervised lunch ashore. Afterwards the campers are chaperoned to our tennis courts in Waveland Park where they meet their tennis professional. Each session begins with stretching and warm-ups, followed by training in fundamental tennis skills, including stroke development, rules and sportsmanship. Sessions end with a series of tennis games that introduce competition in a fun way.
Campers are ready for pick up at 4pm at the tennis courts, at the Irving Park entrance to Waveland Park.
