Chicago Sailing's Basic Sailing 101 is the fun way for your child (10 - 16 YO) to learn all the skills necessary to skipper a modern sailboat safely and confidently. In just five 3-hour sessions, your child will launch into a lifetime of discovery and adventure. This course is immensely fun for young sailors, while being taught to the same comprehensive standards as our adult course. Watch your child's eyes sparkle as he or she quickly learns to harness the power of a sailboat under the guidance of our professional instructors.
Chicago Sailing teaches to the certified standards of US Sailing. Our professional team starts with a solid foundation in boating safety, terminology, sailboat rigging, and rope work. Your new sailor will quickly and seamlessly integrate these skills with practical sailboat handling and seamanship until he/she have acquired the skills and confidence to command a modern keelboat in controlled conditions. Chicago Sailing’s vessels are 22’ keelboats which exceed USCG safety standards. Students will be trained in water safety and be required to wear approved life jackets (provided) and wear light-soled, closed-toe shoes when on the docks and on the water. Placement in all classes is subject to approval by the Sailing School staff.
