Chicago Sailing’s Rules and Regulations For Non-Operating Participants

As a Non-Operating Participant of Chicago Sailing I Agree:

  1. to register MYSELF and ALL MY FELLOW GUESTS with CHICAGO SAILING, INC. (CS). As a contracting participant I warrant that that each participant in my party has properly executed a current CS waiver agreement prior to the use of any CS vessels or facilities and I assume all risks and responsibilities for those who fail to do so.
  2. to register myself as a Qualified Operator before acting in any capacity of command of any CS vessel or equipment. I agree that operating any CS vessel or equipment in any capacity of command constitutes an acknowledgement that I am a Qualified Operator and will be bound by those appropriate CS Rules and Regulations, whether or not I have registered as such.
  3. That each reservation I make for sailing services with CS is a binding contract, obligating me to guarantee payment via a current, valid credit/debit card with sufficient limits to fully complete my contractual obligation. I hereby authorize for payment, without qualification or revocation, all charges associated with my reservation for CS services, including, but not limited to, CS Cancellation Policy, Late Return Policy, attributable damages/losses, and extraordinary cleaning charges.
  4. that my fellow guests and I will immediately and without hesitation, submit to the authority or the CS professional captain and sailing staff in all matters concerning vessel operations, safety and comfort. My guests and I will refrain from operating, or assisting in the operation of, any CS vessel or equipment unless actively supervised by authorized CS staff.
  5. that my guests and I will wear lifejackets on CS vessels and docks when requested by authorized CS staff. I will alert CS staff when I have concerns about the safety or comfort of any person in my group.
  6. that my fellow guests and I will dress appropriately and use sun protections for variable weather conditions that are likely on Lake Michigan. I will wear appropriate footwear that is light-soled, non-marking. I agree to remove shoe marks that I leave, or pay for their removal.
  7. to authorize credit card charges of $60/hr, for any extraordinary clean–ups, including, but are not limited to: dark shoe marks, illness, and excessive rubbish removal.
  8. to respect our boating neighbors by avoiding congestion, littering and noise on Chicago Park District (CPD) docks and park grounds. I will refrain from smoking or cooking with open fires on CS boats or CPD docks.
  9. that I may park vehicles in Waveland Park, subject to the conditions of the CPD. I understand that it is wise to lock valuables and non-essential item in the trunk of my vehicle.
  10. to contact Chicago Sailing’s office (773) 871 7245 at the first sign of danger. I will reserve (773) 706-3910 for EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS ONLY. Additional contacts include the Belmont Harbormaster (312/742-7673), Chicago Marine Police (911), the United States Coast Guard (773/768-4093). I may also call for assistance via VHF radio Channel 16.

  1. I have read, understand, and will abide by the Rules, Regulations and Safety Procedures of Chicago Sailing, Inc. (CS), in their current form or as amended from time to time without notice.
  2. I understand that there are dangers and risks in any sailing activity and water sports in general.
  3. I understand that Lake Michigan can be a dangerous body of water, posing significant hazard, including, but not limited to sudden storms and unexpected changes in wind and water conditions, that can cause bodily injury, including death.
  4. I further assert that I am a capable swimmer and that I am sufficiently healthy to participate safely.
  5. As legal guardian(s), I (we) include in this RELEASE all minor participants in our care, whether listed or not.
  6. I warrant that I fully understand the operation of the vessels I am renting and commanding, including propulsion systems under both sail and power.
  7. I hereby fully release Chicago Sailing, Inc., the Chicago Park District, Westrec, Inc., their administrators and employees from any liability whatsoever for lost cost, damage or expense (including attorneys’ fees), for personal injury, including death, arising from or connected in any way with my use of the facilities and equipment, including without limitation, sailboats and other watercraft of any description of CS, Inc.
  8. I release for promotional purposes any photo and /or video image or quotation of me while I engage in activities at Chicago Sailing, Inc.
