Course Description

Are you looking to document your sailing skills to an international standard? Chicago Sailing is proud to offer four levels of certification through US SAILING, the national governing body of sailing in the United States. Since our courses are structured to the exacting standards of US SAILING, your certifications will be recognized and honored at sailing locations around the world. More, you will know that you have met or exceeded the most thorough sailing criteria for each level. US Sailing

Qualification is a two-step process. First, you must demonstrate that you have completed the required coursework to your instructor’s satisfaction. Then you sit for a written exam under Chicago Sailing supervision. Exams typically take less than one hour, though some may take longer. Grading is immediate, with certifications endorsed and recorded in your official US SAILING logbook. You also receive one year of membership in US SAILING.

We offer the following certifications:

To qualify for US Sailing Certification beginning with Basic Keelboat, sailors must successfully complete Intermediate Sailing 161 with Chicago Sailing or have equivalent sailing experience.

US Sailing's Basic Keelboat Certification is included as part of Intermediate Sailing 161 upon candidates successful completion. If candidates have equivalent experience, certifications are available upon successful completion of a written exam and demonstration of sailing skills.

US Sailing Certifications cost $100 which includes administration of written exam, grading, issuance of Official US Sailing Logbook, Certification Standards Handbook and one year's membership to US Sailing.
