J/22

Sailing is a sport best learned in boats that are immediately responsive to the smallest changes. The ideal training boat is one that is an extension of one's own senses. The J/22 is that boat. It is a fast and modern "sailing sports car," combining the feel and exhilaration of a dinghy with the upright stability of a high-performance keelboat. It is the most popular choice of adult sailing fleets nationwide and Chicago Sailing's first choice for our training programs.

The 7-foot cockpit will accommodate as many as 5 adults comfortably. With sailing controls within an arm's length of the tiller, the J/22 is a joy to sail with a few friend.

The J/22 is built for safety. Hatch boards seal off the cozy cabin from rain, sun or heavy seas. An efficient jiffy reefing will reduce sail area in just a few moments. The J22’s cuddy cabin affords shelter from rain, sun or heavy seas. As with all our boats, the J22s come complete with Lifejackets and a safety box containing first aid supplies, flares and whistle. Each of our boats is powered by a 3.5hp outboard motor.

Chicago Sailing's fleet of fourteen J/22s stands ready to serve your instructional and recreational needs. Make a reservation early to ensure your first choice of times.

The J/22 is fast, stable and responsive.

Operational Tip:

The J22 sails very well on mainsail alone. As winds increase, it is advisable to reduce sail area by reefing the mainsail first. If the boat remains overpowered, it is wise to drop and secure the jib, then sail under reefed mainsail only.

You'll find the J/22 is an ideal boat to train on
