Chicago Sailing is excited to announce our second Diesel Engine Workshop event! This is a hands on class where we will strip a Yanmar 2QM diesel engine down to the bare block, examining it's components and explaining their functions along the way. Led by Northshore Marine's Pat Markham you will learn all about basic maintenance & servicing, winterization, and how to diagnose common problems in marine diesel engines.
The second half of the class will take place in the spring, where you will get to reassemble the engine and test it. In this half of the class you will get an opportunity to do everything from installing pistons, bolting on the head, to adding fuel and oil!
Upon completion of this class you will have a new found appreciation for the diesel engine in your boat, and you will have learned how to save yourself time and money by completing some simple yet important maintenance steps yourself.
This is a great class for those looking to live-aboard or do extensive cruising on a sailboat.
"Chicago Sailing’s Diesel Workshop was GREAT! As owner of a 32 foot Hunter sailboat my knowledge of engines was minimal prior to the class.
Now I have a full understanding of my engine and a new confidence in my ability to diagnose/service much of it without professional attention.
And the class was fun! I strongly recommend it to anyone who owns a boat." - Eric Q.
